# Configure your first workspace

> Complete the essential organization settings before you create courses and enroll learners.

## Purpose

Configure the workspace information that learners, administrators, and public visitors can use.

## Prerequisites

* You are an organization administrator.
* You opened the correct workspace.

## Procedure

1. Open **Workspace**.
2. Select **Settings**.
3. Complete **General** settings.
4. Configure **Learning defaults**.
5. Add responsible contacts.
6. Configure branding if your organization uses custom branding.
7. Configure the **Public profile** if you publish a public catalogue.

## Required checks

Before you publish a course, confirm that:

* The organization display name is correct.
* The default locale and time zone are correct.
* At least one responsible contact exists.
* The public catalogue setting matches your publication plan.

## Result

Your workspace is ready for people, organization structure, courses, and enrollments.
